The problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about one another. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Admittedly most of my f-list actually know me pretty well in real life but still...I thought it might be interesting to see what kinds of stuff I got asked...if anybody even asks anything at all.

News of me...public poetry, reclaiming of territory and frantic room cleaning [Jul. 16th, 2009|12:55 am]
[Current Location |In the alternate rollychair...I need a new one (pout)]
[mood | meh]
[music |Stormy Weather by Billie Holiday]

Hallelujah!! I finally have my space back...Jess and Josh finally got an apartment here in town that they can afford and thats in the right schooldistrict. This means they are no longer sleeping on my floor or in the living room. Much as I love her we do much better when we aren't living in each others pockets.

So, the county fair is next week and since my mom finally quit harassing me about scrapbooking I decided to go ahead and do a few pages. Yeah I know I'm strange...my automatic reaction to someone telling me I HAVE to do something is to not do it on principal...it may not make a lot of sense but there you go. Anyway I've been considering doing a poetry book scrapbook with all my poems in it, I mean I have like 60 and they are all just sitting on my harddrive gathering digital-dust or whatever. So yeah I did three pages total...one single page and then a two page spread...the one page one was a poem I wrote back in highschool for my best friend...it actually doesn't totally suck, unlike some of the other stuff. The other spread is a poem about me...My mom loves it but I've never really been sure about it. THey both came out ok but I nearly had a slight freak out after I turned them in for judging cause it suddenly occured to me that Oh MY GOD people were going to read them. I'm still trying to remind myself not to freak out.  I'm a little neurotic about my poetry in case you couldn't tell, I almost had to leave the room when a friend read a few of them at a poetry reading at my college. I'll know either tomorrow night or at least by Saturday how I did.
I also entered some pictures again...I probably won't win anything there either...I never do. But I like doing it so I keep trying anyway.

And last but not least my mom talked to my grandma tonight after we got home from going to see Harry Potter and grandma said that we need to have the whole house and yard completely clean and done and everything so somebody can come through and do a property value assessment or whatever. I'm not real clear on the details but basically they're doing it now because of something to do with property value and the taxes we'll have to pay on it when grandma passes away, hopefully wayyyy down the road but I guess you never know.  Anyway that means that I have to completely top to bottom clean my room, which is as per usual a slight disaster area...only a little one though. We've gotta clean the carpets and everything. So I think I'm gonna spend my weekend moving everything in my room out cleaning it and then putting it back. And I've got A LOT of stuff.  Books and movies and magazines and clothes and just y'know STUFF. my desk looks like something exploded on it. My allergies are already freaking out in protest. The last time we seriously cleaned my room I spent the next week popping allergy medicine so I could breathe through my nose.

Harry Potter, Leverage and a freaktastic little chia head thingy [Jul. 16th, 2009|12:07 am]

[music |"Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" by Ottis Redding]

So first off I just saw Half Blood Prince...very cool. Not as good as the book maybe but still a good movie in its own right. It was just me mom and bub, which was a little odd cause it's usually at least us and Bobby...or Jess, Josh and the girls.  It was nice though. Anyway we went out to eat after and got to talking about movie adaptations of books...especially of super popular books or series of books like Harry Potter. Bub doesn't like them cause they're almost never true enough to the book to suit him. But that doesn't really surprise me cause he can be kind of picky about stuff. I on the other hand love adaptations of books like the Potter books. I think of them as kind of authorized visual fanfic. It's one group of peoples view of the books. Also as someone who understands a little more of the technical side of the writing and time constraints of a movie then my brother, though admittedly not very much more, I get the reasons things are left out a little more.  I tend to be a little more understanding and forgiving of plot points having been trimmed out because they aren't pertinent to the main story line, and things being shifted around in the timeline in order to move the movie foreward. Which is not to say that I don't wish that some stuff had been left in or at least mentioned in passing...but alas it is not my movie and nobody asked me.

In other news of the entertainment variety...Leverage's second season started tonight. Pretty cool. Not my favorite episode but still it was interesting. I can't wait to see how things progress this season. The end made me snicker. Parker and Hardison as a nun and a priest was a little bit giggleworthy.

Also while I was watching Leverage I saw the most bizzare commercial ever...well ok maybe not ever but still...really really not right. ChiaObama.
Yeah...you read that right a little terracotta bust of the president that can grow freaky plant hair...it's meant "to comemmorate the inauguration". DEEPLY TACKY...and more than a little bit creepy.
I mean I totally get that its a big deal...but seriuosly. Couldn't we have stopped at the tacky comemmorative plates? Was the creepy little chiabust really necessary?

[music |"Trying to Find Atlantis" by Jamie O'Neal]

So I just finished watching the movie "Ten Inch Hero" which I'm sure most of you have never even heard of...it was completely fabulous. It was gonna get points anyway for having Jensen Ackles in it but even discounting that it was genuinely a good movie. Jensen was really good in it though...also it was kind of odd seeing him with green, red and blue hair at various points in the movie...the piercings and tattoo were kind of odd too but actually didn't look bad. I liked Clea Duvall's character Jen a lot. I guess cause I'm kind of like her. I also really liked Daneel Harris in it...I'm sure I've seen her in something else but I fail at remembering what...I'll have to look it up. Anyway now I have to buy it...well I guess I could just not give blockbuster back their copy but that'd probably end up being more expensive than just buying it off the website or whatever. (shrug)
Anyway in other news of my geekiness I went shopping with mom today and bought the book "In The Hunt" which is a collection of essays on Supernatural. One of them was written by the ever fabulous [info]pen37. Went to Half Price and raided the clearance section...ended up with some CDs and a couple of books to add to the ever growing To Read pile currently overtakng my bookshelf...its getting a little rediculous really.
Oh and in news unrelated to my geekiness but that I feel the need to share anyway Jess's husband Josh finally got a job...after like 6 or 8 months I think. Which is good cause if he'd continued the routine of sitting on his lazy ass that he had going I was gonna have to get seriously shitty. Also he was getting a pretty serious case of Trucker Butt...which is just something noone wants to have to see. But yeah he starts work in a week at one of the factories here in town which is great except that means they have no babysitter to watch Tay, who isn't in school yet, until its time for her to go to preschool. Guess who got nominated...Uncle Dane, who is currently on layoff from his own job at another factory. Yeah all of you who know my brother picture him babysitting a vaguely hyperactive 4 year old with a tendency to squeal and a fondness for the disney channel. He has to keep an eye on her from the time Jess goes to work and drops Kenzie off at school until its time for her to go to preschool. This includes entertaining, feeding and making sure she is dressed and ready to be picked up my the other lady who said she'd give her a ride. Does anyone else find this more than mildly amusing?

A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.

B) Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag the one who tagged you.

Tagging: (sorry. I'm breaking the rules. I tag anyone that's BORED!!)

1. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up:
My bookcases (2 of books and 1 of DVDs), the wrought iron cross hanging over my fireplace, 4 different swords, a blue stuffed elephant named monkey, a stuffed monkey named Jack.

2. How do you style your hair?
Longish with layers...usually in a ponytail or a bun so it'll stay out of my way.

3. What are you wearing now?
bright green sleep pants and an olive drab green scoop neck tee over a black pajama tank that says high seas drifter on it...hey its Saturday night and I didn't leave the house today don't judge my lack of fashion.

4. What's your occupation?
I currently, and a little depressingly, unload trucks at a local distribution center for a national women's clothing chain.

5. Do you nap a lot?
God I wish...

6. Who was the last person you hugged?
Probably Taya, my best friend's youngest, this afternoon before they went home.

7. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
(rolls eyes) should I do alphabetical or chronological? It depends on the day really...I'm a little add with it. Mostly Supernatural, but I've been meandering into the Leverage fandom as well the last week or so. Those are the two main ones at the moment.

8. What was the last thing you ate today?
a deli sliced chicken sandwich with mayo and mustard on whole grain white bread

9. What was the last text message you received?
oh lord I don't know...probably something from Mandos...I think it was a couple of weeks ago when I texted her about the shiny weddingy type headpiece thingy I found for her at an auction.

10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
LJ, Facebook, Gmail (I'm a compulsive email checker), Delicious...Google...thats about it really

11. What was the last thing you bought?
A gift bag, a couple of cards and a gift card for a baby shower yesterday.

12. What are you listening to right now?
Rockstar by Nickelback...really whatever comes up next on the shuffle on my laptop.

13. What do you think about before you go to bed at night?
Usually either that I really dont' wanna work the next day or whichever story idea or thing I've read is poking me in the brain at the moment.

14. What was the last cd you bought?
A copy of Evanescence's Fallen, which I already had a burned copy of but it was janky and I found it for cheap.

15. What is your favorite weather, and why?
Days when its warm but not too hot and the humidity is tolerable, when the sky is that bright blue you only get in the summer and there are no clouds. I love that kind of weather because you can just be outside and enjoy it, its great park weather for the kids.

16. If you could have any musical talent, what would it be?
I've always wanted to play the piano

17. Where would you like to go on vacation?
honestly probably a road trip with my girls or my mom...I've always thought it'd be fun to just get in the car and go with people you like hanging with and an atlas...and good music mustn't forget the music.

18. Who are your all time favorite actor and actress?
Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant (though Danny Kaye is a close second there)

19. What's one of your favorite movies?
Oh lord thats a hard one...Arsenic and Old Lace is definitely up there on the list.

Ok so I have a slightly random request for any of you who might actually read this.
I'm looking for as many different versions of the song "Summertime" as I can find. I read a thing somewhere randomly that said it was one of the most covered songs ever, it's originally from the musical "Porgy and Bess" I think. So I was talking with Kayla today while wandering the CD section of Half Price Books and I mentioned it when I found a Janis Joplin CD with the song on it and we got to talking about it. Anyway this is my usual rambling way of getting to the point...which is that I was curious to see how many different versions of the song I could find. I already have I think 3 or 4...Janis, Peggy Lee and Billie Holliday for sure and I think maybe another one though I haven't checked yet to see for sure.
So yeah if any of you who read this happen to have a version of "Summertime" no matter who the artist is or what genre it is I was hoping that you might send it to me. I want to see if  I can find enough different versions to make a whole CD. It's a weird goal I know but (shrug) I'm easily amused.

[music |"House Rules" by Kane]

Wow I just realized I haven't posted anything since December...I fail a lot.
Ok well I won't try and give everybody a full update on my life cause honestly I'm boring most of the time and most of you who would really care one way or another I talk to with reasonable frequency anyway.
Suffice it to say that nothing major has happened since my last post...well except that Kenzie started school this year which makes me feel epically old. I just started weight watchers with my mom and grandma in an attempt to feel and look less cowlike...we'll see how it goes. I keep going back to the "go back to school for something I actually want  to do" debate. I just am not sure what I REALLY want to do. (sigh)

In other random news of me...well kinda. I got really bored and tired of reading fanfic (yes I know amazing isn't it) last week, so I was looking for a book to read. I'd been curious about the Stephanie Meyer Twilight series for a while...the coverart caught my eye in the book store. So anyway they had it on sale at Walmart so I bought the first book "Twilight" just to see if I liked it and what it was all about. It actually didn't completely suck, it was a really quick read, the characters were interesting...mostly (more on that later), and the story while pretty cliche wasn't completely crap and was actually pretty interesting. Now my main issue with the books is that I am something of a language freak. I actually notice things like word choice and the writers style...geeky things like that. And in this case I was pretty solidly underwhelmed. Now I know it was written as a young adult book and all but it just seemed like she was almost talking down to her audience or something...I don't know maybe its just me. Actually to be honest it read like interesting but mediocre fanfiction.
Anyway back to my little issue with the characters...ok those of you who know me, who are probably the only people still reading this anyway if anyone is, know that I am not exactly what anyone would call a hardcore feminist. But really...The main female character in this series practically has damsel stamped across her forehead. Especially in the second book when Ed's Angel complex gets the better of him and he bails, taking his family with him, for her own good. Like she is somehow incapable of making the decision on her own...which also irritated me. Anyway he bails and takes off for wherever and she goes pretty much catatonic for like a week and then basically becomes like a mopey zombie for the next three months. Now I know I probably don't have the right perspective on this particular plot point but really...I just wanted to slap her and tell her to get over herself, quit moping like a toddler, put her big girl panties on and deal with it. Maybe its the fact that I tend to be of the "I don't need a guy to be happy" philosophy, and I"m generally pretty independant, that makes that kind of behavior grate on me. Either way over the course of the books I found myself not really being a fan of Ed and Bella the way other people seem to be...though I actually liked Bella better in the 4th book...probably because she was less dameslly (is that even a word?).
Now don't get me wrong I liked the book and proceeded to go out and get and read the other three books in the series over the course of the next week, all of which I truly enjoyed, but really I don't get the Harry Potter-esque ferver of the fans in this case. Its a good story some interesting characters but (shrug) honestly I've read better written fanfics. Maybe I'm just too picky or something (shrug).
Also her vampires are SPARKLY what the Hell is that? Being fabulously hot and all that I totally get cause yeah vampires...but SPARKLY? (twitch) I finally had to just choose to overlook that little plot point...it just seems wrong somehow.

Ok sorry for the random book review or whatever that just was I guess I had more to say there than I thought (shrug).  Alright now that I've probably bored you all into comas...either that or you stopped reading after the first paragraph or so...I'm gonna get off of here and go watch my brand shiny new Supernatural Season 3 DVDs, and oogle the pretty boys while mourning once again the strike shortened season...only 16 episodes (pouts). Season 4 starts next week though so yay for that.

Hey all...ok so I just thought this would be an easy way to tell y'all whats been going on today without having to tell it a half dozen times. So I don't know how many of you I've told that Dane used to have petite mal seizures when he was little...he hadn't had any problem with them since he was like 6 or 7 I think. Well today he had two full on grand mal seizures. The first one he had at work...just dropped and started seizing...managed to hit his head pretty good too. He has a pretty good bump on his forehead and another plus a few stitches on the back of his head. He bounced back from that one pretty quick...had a hell of a headache but they had him up and moving around and were gonna send him home with a prescription and strict no-driving-for-six-weeks instructions.
Then he had another one...whacked his head again too, now he has another pretty red bump in the middle of his forehead. Anyway apparently this one kinda zapped him cause he's been more asleep than awake since about 4 this afternoon. Anyway they're keeping him overnight for observation...he should hopefully get to come home tomorrow.
Anyway yeah I just thought you guys might wanna know...especially Juliet (grin)

Kelly had this posted and I was bored and figured hey why not...I haven't posted anything in forever...so here goes.

Seven quirks/habits/facts/call them what you likes...

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.

1) People in large quantities, and especially in smallish enclosed spaces, freak me the hell out...not quite panic attack level but close.

2) I'm the only 25 year old virgin that I know...

3) I'm pretty sure I've got ADD and have had it for most of my life, also possibly OCD to a lesser extent

4) I can't stand to eat bread by itself without lots of butter or something on it...the texture and the taste make me gag.

5) I do not have the flirting gene...I can't do it, don't recognize it when other people do it, and apparently can't write it either.

6)  I have a weird fear of ladders...I love heights but getting up on a ladder, or even a step stool or standing on a chair freaks me out.

7) I am of the opinion that everything in life has a soundtrack...and if it doesn't it really really should.

I'd tag people but I figure (shrug) if they wanna do it they will so...

Ok so I was getting ready for work...which I still need to finish doing and I found this and just had to post about it....cracked me up.
All you Stargate Atlantis fans out there will appreciate this.
There are 2 videos you need to see....the first was made by a fan and posted on youtube. It is an original rap about how much the guys loves Atlantis. I saw it a while ago and laughed my ass off. Here is the Link
The other Vid is actually done by David Hewlett...the guy who plays McKay. He apparently had WAY too much time between scenes and made his own little rap in response to the first guys, who incidently ended up getting a parton the show as Scientist #2.
Someone on a Yahoo group I"m on sent out the link...I watched it. Funny as hell. Here is the link
Ok well I'm off to work now. Later.

I should probably try and update this a little more often...(shrug) ahh well. Anyway I just thought I'd post to let you know that I have not in fact fallen off the planet. I started my new job back in february, worked days, which sucked, for two weeks and then the last few I've been on nights. I actually like it better. I'm working hours I'd be up anyway, plus I get to sleep in in the mornings which is of the good. Its funny the work is a lot harder than what I was used to, loading and unloading trucks, but I actually like it. My stress level is like a third of where it was when I was at the store. I like the people I work with even, I have yet to feel homocidal towards anyone there, which is quite the switch from working at the store. Plus I'm losing weight, or at least inches cause I haven't gotten on a scale or anything but my clothes fit different...especially the pants. I'm getting much needed exercise and getting paid for it, how fabulous is that?
Anyway in other news I'm probably gonna get a new vehicle in may or june sometime...I want to wait till my 90 days are up at work. I"m thinking either a small SUV of some sort that gets decent gas mileage, or a smallish car that gets good gas mileage...you notice a theme there. My car's gas mileage is of the not so shiny.
Anyway I just thought I'd do a quick update or whatever since its been a while.

Wow its been an age since I updated hasn't it? Well I haven't fallen off the face of the planet. Mostly I've just been working and babysitting. I had an Interview last week here in town and the lady called this morning to tell me I got the job. Its working in a warehouse but its making twice what I'm making now so at least I'll be able to pay my bills without having to ask grandma for fundage every little bit. So thats a bonus. I'm still looking for something that doesn't make me feel like I wasted 100grand on a degree but for now this will keep my bills paid. Also I'll have a regular schedule which I'll be very glad of...five nights a week and weekends off. No more bouncing from shif to shift and almost never having a weekend off.
Anyway in other news mom is getting geared up to go to Daytona for the race with my Aunts. She's been counting the days since sometime in December I think. The real trick will be getting the three of them on the plane...mom's the only one who has ever flown. Should be interesting to say the least.
And do you know that the one time in my entire life that I actually wanted to watch the superbowl for anything but the commercials I have to work? But the night manager and I are gonna try and find a radio or something so we can at least listen to it maybe...since the store owner is a putz and wont let us just close early that day (grumble). (sigh) ahh well I'll just have to call home for updates or something or maybe have them tape it for me. (shrug)
Well thats it from me.

[music |"New York New York" by Frank Sinatra]

Ok so i haven't fallen off the planet...I just lead a boring life and have not a whole lot of anything to post about. But I'm bored so it was either this or sudoku puzzles online.
So yeah same shit different day...had to work at o'dark thirty this morning, yesterday too actually. Which totally blows...cause a morning person I am not. Then Billy the owner decided yesterday that he thought the front end looked too messy so we had to clean everything off and then reshelve it. And let me tell you there are few less fun ways to spend your time than scraping old tape off a shelf with a razor blade and trying to disprove the laws of physics by wedging candy into spaces that don't exist just because some micromanaging freak thinks it should all magically fit. (sigh)
I'm not gonna get into the pain in my ass that is work at the moment cause it just makes me want to smack someone...preferably Billy. Putz that he is.
In other news...Bub is, I think anyway, back with his Ex. Skye. Yes that is really her name I swear. I'm not sure what i think about that either...cause every time they've been dating before she's treated him like crap. She seems less flaky so far this time...though I still think he's way more into her than she is him. Its like I told him, I don't have a problem with her as a person...I just think she makes a lousy girlfriend. To top it off she's pregnant and just broke up with her previous boy, and the kids dad a few weeks ago. So I'm kind of affraid he's gonna get attached to her and the kid both and then she's gonna screw him over again. I know my oppinion doesn't really count here but damnit its kind of like watching a train heading for a car parked on the tracks...you have a pretty good idea whats gonna happen but there isn't alot you can do about it. (sigh)
Hmmm...ok onto a less annoying subject...oh I've found a new show to be hooked on. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Fabulous show. The dialogue makes me want to hug the writers. Its by the people, at least some of them, who did West Wing...which I have still never seen but want to. The banter is great. If you haven't seen it yet you should. Its on monday nights at 10 after Heroes, another show that I think looks interesting but am almost never home to watch.
Oh and just because I've not been able to find it online and one of you might have better luck...I'm looking for something for my friend Chandra. She doesn't have the internet and she wants me to try and find her a picture or something of her name in Sanskrit.  Cause that is the language of origin of the name.  She wants it to use for a tattoo. If anyone might happen to know where to find it or something that would be muchly shiny.

To Skippy or not to Skippy? [Oct. 3rd, 2006|02:28 am]

Ok so I just thought I'd let anyone who might be interested that I updated the Skippy List. Its up to 229 now I think...actually I've updated it twice this month but I kinda forgot to tell anybody the first time. I know most of you won't care but (shrug) somebody might. Oh and if you do read it and can think of any thing to add to the list letme know...I thought of a few of the new ones but most of them were taken from comments people left. Also to anybody who might care I've been thinking of doing a Stargate Atlantis version of the list...I know there is already at least one out there but I'm bored and a geek so its been kicking around in my brain for a while. I've even written a few down but I'd like some input on whether I should post it at all or what...that is assuming that any of you even care. I know sevreal of you don't watch the show.

Ok I know most of you who read this won't really care beyond a that sucks but I have to vent this somewhere before I go to work tonight and loose my temper. Yesterday Billy the guy who owns the store told my mother, who has worked for him for over 11 years that he was going to have someone else take over the scheduling and supervising the cashiers. Because after her doing that for probably 9 years he's decided it isn't her strong suit. That she's better at the paperwork, and he wanted to get rid of the stress that that part of her job gives her. Which is BULLSHIT.

What mom and I think caused the whole thing is that back at the begining of July the other morning office person quit while mom was on vacation for a week and noone let mom know. Well they did but they weren't supposed to. Anyway while mom was gone Billy hired this new lady Vicki, who is above all else an idiot. She'd been working at Kogers, this gas station/convenience store kind of place. She started back in July and still can't do the paperwork right. This is the person who Billy has given control of the schedule and the cashiers to. When I work with her she spends more time asking me questions about how to do her job or sitting on her big ass in the office trying not to screw anything up so badly it can't be fixed.

Anyway she's been sucking up to Billy, who despite his protestations to the contrary is about the worst managerial person I know. Mom had all summer been working 4 10 hour shifts a week to get her 40 hours and then having 3 days off...so when Vicki started she kept that up and did the same with Vicki...working it to where they both had 4 on and 6 off. Well Vicki evidently went to Billy and said that she just couldn't handle that many days away from working in the office, that she would forget how to do it. Which I believe if only bacause the woman is an idiot. But when mom had asked her about it she'd said yeah it sounded like a good idea. So anyway billy got onto mom about it and said they had to go back to 5 days, ok they did that. Now this latest bullshit. I've GOT TO GET ANOTHER JOB!!! Or I'm gonna become violent with someone or get myself fired. (twitches)

I apologize if this makes no sense but like I said I had to vent or I was gonna do soemthing that wouldn't look good on my resume...like get fired for telling the store owner I think he's a fucking moron or my "supervisor" that she's an ignorant bitch and just exactly where she can go.

They cancelled SG-1! Ignorant fuckers. At least they picked up Atlantis for its 4th saeson...and they are planning to air the rest of this season but still it pisses me off. I mean I know that the show had to end eventually but why the hell couldn't they just have said when they renewed them for this season that it would be the last instead of letting them all go about planning for season 11. Cause I think if they cancelled it this early in the season they were probably planning to all along. Ok I'm done ranting now...I think.
